Summer sessions: The Lands beyond
In 2019, I curated a two-part group exhibition at Anglim Gilbert Gallery, titled Summer Sessions, which featured the work of six emerging Bay Area artists. The series was conceived as an homage to the gallery’s historic Introductions program, which provided many now-established Bay Area artists with their first formal exhibition opportunities. The Lands Beyond (June 28th – July 27th), part one of Summer Sessions, features textiles, paintings, and ceramics by Ricki Dwyer, Eli Thorne, and Maryam Yousif. Often verging on the fantastical and anthropomorphic, the artists’ works address the mythical and social forces that shape self-presentation and personal narratives.

Summer sessions: The Lands beyond
Fugitive Material (August 2nd – August 24th), part two of Summer Sessions, features photographs, chemigrams, drawings, and sculpture by Kija Lucas, Brianna Tadeo, and Rachelle Reichert. Borrowing from scientific methods of documentation and inquiry, the artists address the precariousness of industrial land use, family history, racial bias, and mortality.
